FAQ’s

Uniformerly is an online marketplace that allows you to buy, sell or give away second-hand school uniform and school related items to other parents within your child’s school. Uniformerly is currently aimed at UK schools from Nursery to Year 13.

We hope by using Uniformerly, that you can recycle your children’s old school kit, helping to save you money, whilst helping other parents to cut the cost of buying school uniform. You can also help your school, help your PTA and help the environment simply by recycling your school uniform and school related items on Uniformerly.

It’s completely FREE to use, with no listing fees, no hidden extras and if you’d like to make a small donation to your school or your school's PTA, you can do this easily too.

If your PTA runs a second-hand school uniform shop, that’s great! - please tell them about Uniformerly. We don’t want to compete with your school’s second-hand shop, but rather compliment it and whilst school second-hand uniform shops cannot be open all of the time, we are available 24/7, all year round.

Just a thought...

Why not put your PTA’s second-hand school uniform shop online at Uniformerly! Please select PTA Boost from the menu for full details.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

Uniformerly launched in September 2020 aimed initially at UK Primary Schools from Nursery To Year 6.

However, due to an overwhelming response from Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, their PTAs and Parents, Uniformerly now caters for all UK schools up to and including Year 13.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

Yes, but...

Uniformerly is currently available for UK schools from Nursery To Year 13.

If you think that we’ve missed your school out, then, please let us know and we’ll get it sorted, alternatively, if your school name has changed, again please let us know at info@uniformerly.co.uk.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

Not at all...

You can look at the items listed within your school without registering by selecting Find a School and then choosing your school from the dropdown menus. However to list items yourself and make contact with other members you will need to be registered and logged in.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

To use multiple schools on Uniformerly, simply register with one school and login. Then, you can change your school on the ‘My Profile’ page to list items for sale at any of your schools. To view items to buy at your school(s), you can flip between schools on your profile exactly as above.

Or, if you’re just looking for items to buy at your school(s) you can view items for sale without registering or logging in using the ‘Find your School’ page.

No, all of your personal details are kept completely private.

However, when you want to make contact with a seller about an item, you send them your name, email address and a short message via the website to allow them to contact you back.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

If your PTA runs a second-hand school uniform shop, then yes!.. with either our PTA Boost or our PTA Shop - developed specifically with School PTA's in mind.

Please select 'I'm on the PTA' from the menu for full details, or see our Uniformerly Shop FAQ.

Covid-19 - Uniformerly allows your parents to browse for items from the comfort and safety of their own home, maintaining social distancing and keeping your children's schools a safer place for all.

If your school doesn't currently have a second-hand uniform shop, this could be the most effective way to start one.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

How does the shop work?

The shop works like any online shop you may have used, items listed by you can be added to a shopping cart by parents and then paid for in one transaction. The payment by the parent is made directly into your PTA/school PayPal account. Effectively offering you a free fully automated online shop for your school second-hand uniform.

Is a Uniformerly shop right for my school?

The benefits of a Uniformerly shop are:

  1. Increased fundraising opportunity
  2. Online payment from parents direct into your PayPal account
  3. Automated stock control
  4. Automated emails
  5. Less time required by volunteers to run your shop

Does it cost anything to use the shop?

Although we do not charge any fees, an online shop does require a payment gateway (we use PayPal) to process online payments, so there will be a small PayPal fee for each transaction. If your payments are generally below £5, we highly recommend using PayPal Micropayments to minimise these fees - we believe this is the cheapest option available on the market.

What is PayPal Micropayments

PayPal Micropayments is an alternative fee structure that favours smaller payment amounts - instead of paying their normal fee of 30p + 2.9% per transaction you pay 5p + 5%. It is easy to apply to your account, find out more here.

How do I set a shop up?

To set up a shop you just need to login and follow the instructions on the ‘I’m on the PTA’ page. These instructions will lead you to an online form to collect the details we need. On this form we ask you to provide us with:

  1. A PayPal email address to link to your page to receive payments
  2. Collection details for parents telling them where and when to pick up items
  3. When we receive your form, we will contact your school to verify your PayPal payment address. As soon as we receive this confirmation, your shop will go live!

Do we need a PayPal account?

Yes, you will need a PayPal account to set up a shop. When a payment is made from a parent it is made directly into your PTA/school PayPal account.

How will I be notified of a sale?

You will receive an email from Uniformerly every time an order has been made. This email is not sent until the payment to your PayPal account has been confirmed (you will also receive a notification from PayPal). Your email will include the name of the buyer, their contact email as well as both the order number and the individual #listing ID’s. These #listing ID’s are shown on the ‘My Listings’ page allowing you to find the correct item(s) for the parent.

How does stock control work?

Stock control allows you to keep track of your uniform shop inventory. It allows you to list multiple items under one title (eg x3 Boys shirts, aged 5-7) to save you the effort of listing similar items individually. Once an item runs out of stock, it is moved to the top of your ‘My Listings’ page and shows as out of stock in red. If you subsequently receive some more items in this category to sell, simply update the stock quantity of this item and submit, no need to create the listing again. All items that are re-listed will re-list with the same #listing ID for your convenience.

Do I need an email specifically for the shop?

Yes, please use an email address that you are happy to link to the shop not an individual. This means that several people can use the same login which can be passed on to future PTA members. If you have an existing membership, you can either change the email address on the ‘My Profile’ page or register again as your PTA/school.

How and why is our email address verified?

We verify your PayPal address with your school to confirm that any payments made by parents are actually going to your school. This prevents abuse of the system and adds a layer of security for you as a PTA/school.

We will contact your school office via the email address published on the school website to verify the PTA/school PayPal account details. To avoid any delays, please include the name of the person in your school office that we should contact. Please make sure they are expecting our email. Once your PTA PayPal address has been confirmed by your school, we will notify you to let you know your shop is active.

Am I tied in for a period of time?

No. You are free to stop using the shop at any time or revert back to using a PTA Boost at your convenience - just get in contact and let us know.

How are items collected by parents?

You decide what will work best for you and let us know via the set up form. We give parents collection instructions both on your shop and in their confirmation email. These instructions detail how you would like parents to collect their items once they have been purchased. We offer you the chance to write different instructions for the website and the email as you may not want to publish names on your website page that you would be happy to include in a private email. For example:

  • On the website:- “Please allow 48hrs before picking up your item from the school reception”
  • On the email:- “Please allow 48hrs from receiving this email before collecting your item from Mrs James at reception - bring this email with you when you collect your item.”

What happens to my current listings when I open a shop?

When you open your shop, your current listings move with you to your shop.

Can parents still list items on the site?

Yes, parents can still list items on the site, but their items will not be part of the shop. Items listed by parents will have a contact form instead of a shopping basket.

What happens if there’s a disagreement between a parent and the PTA about a transaction?

We sincerely hope this never happens, but by starting a shop, a PTA/school acknowledges that all transactions are made directly between the PTA/school and the parent. The PTA/school must take responsibility to deal with complaints fairly. We have oversight of all transactions made, but are not able to mediate between parties.

What happens if I delete an item by mistake?

Don’t worry, accidents happen - get in touch with us ASAP and we’ll find it and return it to you ;o)

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

We hope, that by using Uniformerly, you can recycle as much of your children’s old school kit as possible.

We welcome any items that are school related, including uniform and sports kit, to book bags etc...

Shoes in particular can be expensive and are normally outgrown before they are worn out.

We also hope you’ll consider listing some more generic items such as sports equipment or musical instruments on the site, that you wouldn’t normally find in a school second-hand shop.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

Our bottom line is...

If your school allows your child to wear or take the item to school, it’s acceptable to post it on Uniformerly.

If we deem an item is inappropriate or offensive, we reserve the right to remove the item - please view our Terms and Conditions for our full policy.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

It’s FREE to register and FREE to list items all day every day (and we don't take an after sales commission either!)

Listings last 180 days and if you're item doesn't sell within that period, it's FREE to keep renewing it.

We ask you to renew after this period to remind members to delete any sold items, update details on any currently listed items and to keep the site up to date for buyers.

If your listing looks like it won't sell within the 180 day period, maybe consider lowering the price. This can be done at any time by selecting 'Edit' next to the item on the My Listings page and may help your item sell faster.

We hope, by using Uniformerly, that you can recycle as much of your children’s old school kit as possible, helping to save you money, whilst helping other parents to cut the cost of buying school uniform. You can also help your school, help your PTA and help the environment simply by buying and selling your school uniform and school related items on Uniformerly.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

You can list as many as you like!

The more items listed on Uniformerly, the more everyone can benefit from good quality, affordable second-hand school uniform.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

Here are a few useful tips to help you sell your items more successfully:

  • Help other parents find your items by using the same description as your uniform supplier. This will assist parents using the search function.
  • A picture paints a thousand words (tip: use square photos), try to make your picture clear by taking the photo in good light and with a contrasting background.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. We all understand that uniform doesn't always come home from school in the same condition it went to school in! Little defects are rarely an issue, but it's always nice to know about them in advance.
  • Misspelled items will not get the same visibility on searches, so check your spelling (no one wants to buy a pair of 'Grousers' :o)
  • Washed and crease free items always look better and sell faster.
  • A well priced item will nearly always sell.
  • Remember you'll probably meet the buyer face to face, so honesty is always the best policy!
  • If you don't want to deal with cash transactions, make sure you set up a PayPal account. It's still the preferred payment method when buying stuff online.
  • Once you've sold an item, please remove it from the site. This will stop you receiving unwanted emails and prevent other parents wasting their time contacting you.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

We allow you to sell multiple numbers of the same item on one listing to save time, but selling multiple different items or sizes under one listing is not allowed...

For example, we are more than happy for you to sell several jumpers under one listing, but we do not allow you to sell jumpers, shorts and polo shirts or different sized items under one listing.

The reason for this is that bulk listings make accurate searches difficult, which in turn makes your experience less efficient and impacts the service we can offer to your school community.

We reserve the right to remove any listings that breach our Terms and Conditions.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

Yes! - we very much hope so. We put you in the position to sell your outgrown items and from there on it’s up to you. Once you have sold your item, we recommend deleting your listing from the site to avoid anyone else enquiring about it. Once you remove your listing, we give you the option to donate a portion of your profit directly to your school/PTA.

Our platform seamlessly links to PayPal to enable donations. Any donations you make will be sent directly from you to your school/PTA via PayPal. We do not take a cut of the donation, your school will receive the full amount.

If you feel you have made some money from an item you may have previously thrown away, or are simply just happy to donate to your school, please consider using this facility, however, it is completely optional.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

Our donation facility is for parent to parent sales only. This is because when a PTA sells an item to a parent, the parent will pay the PTA directly, but when a parent sells direct to another parent this money bypasses the PTA. However, we offer your PTA the chance to benefit from parent to parent sales with our PayPal Donations Facility.

How do I make a donation?

It’s simple, as soon as you delete your sold item, you will be asked if you would like to make a donation to your school/PTA (you can only make a donation after you have deleted your sold item from the website).

Why do we ask you to remove your item before making a donation?

There are two main reasons, firstly it stops users from contacting you about your sold item and secondly it keeps the website up-to-date, so that parents only find items that are still available for sale.

Why can’t I make a donation?

If your school hasn’t signed up to Uniformerly’s donation facility, then unfortunately you will be unable to donate at this time.

However, please do mention about donations to your school, as activating this facility is simple and will benefit them directly. Just get your school/PTA to contact us at info@uniformerly.co.uk and we can set this up for them.

How does my donation reach my school?

Our platform links to PayPal to enable parent donations, so, any donations you make will be sent directly from you to your school/PTA via PayPal. We do not take a cut of the donation, your school will receive the full amount.

We're a PTA, how do we set up donations to our school?

It's simple! All we need is your school or PTA PayPal account email address and we'll do the rest (if you don't have one already setup with PayPal you can set one up easily here).

Please email your PayPal details to info@uniformerly.co.uk and we will let you know as soon as your donation facility is ready to go.

PayPal Micropayments

Uniformerly is completely free to use for parents and PTAs but we do rely on PayPal to ensure donations from parent to parent sales get to your PTA. Unfortunately we cannot eliminate any fees PayPal charge, but we can recommend PayPal Micropayments to ensure that as much of the donation as possible gets to your PTA. PayPal Micropayments is a different fee structure that is far more beneficial for accounts receiving transactions of less than £5.

Currently the UK rate for Micropayments is 5p plus 5% of the donation. This means that for a £1 donation, your PTA will receive £0.90 - compared to the standard PayPal rate where your PTA would receive only £0.67!

You can find out more about PayPal Micropayments here.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

If your PTA runs a second-hand school uniform shop, that’s great! - please tell them about Uniformerly. We don’t want to compete with your school’s second-hand shop, but rather compliment it and whilst school second-hand uniform shops cannot be open all of the time, we are available 24/7, all year round for you to browse any items within your school.

Just a thought...

Why not put your PTA’s second-hand school uniform shop online at Uniformerly? - select PTA Boost from the menu to get started.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

Possibly...

Look at items for sale under your school, if your school has a PTA Membership, any items being sold by your PTA will feature a green PTA badge next to the item. This means you can also buy from your PTA via the Uniformerly website.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

In line with our Terms and Conditions, Uniformerly does not allow listings that are inappropriate, threatening or abusive.

Please select our Terms, Conditions and Privacy Policy link at the bottom of every page to view our full policy including our GDPR compliance.

If you spot a listing that concerns you, please let us know at info@uniformerly.co.uk

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

We hope that's not the case, but...

You should see the item and be completely happy with its condition before paying for the item. If you are dissatisfied in any way, please do not make the purchase.

Please note, Uniformerly is designed to introduce buyers to sellers of school uniform. Any transactions are made directly between the buyer and the seller independently of the website. Please be certain that you are happy with the item before paying for it, as we cannot be held responsible for the condition of any items - please see our Terms and Conditions for full details.

We know that our success depends on you, your school, your local community and your local education authority. Only with your help and support, can we make good quality, affordable second-hand school uniform available to parents, children and schools across the UK.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

Absolutely - you asked, we listened!

We’ve added a resources page to the website, where you can access marketing materials to download or print. We hope that you find these resources useful.  Please use them to help promote Uniformerly to your parents, pupils and within your school. They can be downloaded and printed, emailed or used on social media.

We know that you have lots of great ideas, so if you would like us to add any more resources to this area, then please do get in touch. We love hearing from you.

You can access our Resources page here.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

If you’re moving schools, simply change the school name at the bottom of the My Profile page, to update your profile to your new school. Any previous listings under your old school will remain visible at your old school until they expire or are deleted. This means you can still sell items to members of your old school after you have moved schools, as well as buying and selling items at your new school.

This can be particularly useful if your child is moving up from Primary to Secondary School.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

Uniformerly is currently aimed at UK Schools from Nursery to Year 13 and the website only allows you to select a current UK school in your profile.

Although, Uniformerly does not currently support listings for overseas schools, future platform developments will include this facility.

If you are a non UK school or parent and would like to see Uniformerly available to parents and schools in your country, then please do let us know here (developments are ongoing and we will be able to advise you as to when you can expect Uniformerly to launch in your country).

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

No problem, please reset it via the link on the Login Page. If you have any further issues, please contact us directly at info@uniformerly.co.uk

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

If you’re having trouble with the site, let us know either via the Contact Form, directly at info@uniformerly.co.uk or via social media and we’ll get you up and running as quickly as possible.

Alternatively, you can contact us directly via our chat facility (when this is active you will see a green chat icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen). Click on it to chat to us live.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

Not a problem.... schools occasionally change their names and we do our best to keep up. If your listings or school are no longer visible, please reselect your newly named school on the "My Profile" page and you will find your listings have re-appeared under the new school. If you have any problems, please get in touch and we'll help you sort it out.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

We strive to make sure that our emails reach you, but occasionally due to circumstances beyond our control they end up in spam mailboxes.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.

We're all in this together.

We understand that this is an extremely challenging time for everyone and whilst we want you to benefit from using Uniformerly to buy and sell your second-hand school uniform, we want to make sure that you do this as safely as possible.

Uniformerly eliminates the need for in person PTA shops, which is particularly useful during Covid-19, however...

It's important to follow the current Government guidance when selling items on Uniformerly, including maintaining social distancing when meeting the buyer/seller. Please wash all items before handing them over to another parent.

Most importantly - Stay safe.

Wear it out. Don't throw it out.
